Midsummer Night Landscape Special
A unique opportunity to spend an entire night photographing in the UKs most northerly National Nature Reserve, Hermaness, Unst. At simmer dim it will never truly get dark, creating delicate midnight light. Hermaness offers the opportunity to photograph a wild seascape shaped by thousands of years of relentless Atlantic storms, with cliffs covered in thousands of nesting gannets and puffins. The iconic Muckle Flugga Lighthouse which sits just off the coast of Hermaness marks the most northerly land in the British Isles, Muckle Flugga and Out Stack. Hermaness is not only a National Nature Reserve, it is also National Scenic area and a Special Protected Area (SPA) for its internationally important bird colonies.
There is four nights available the 20th, 21st, 22nd and the 23rd of June to go and photograph the most northerly point in the UK during the simmer dim. Hermaness is on the most northerly island of Unst and during this time period I shall be staying on the island of Unst. Transport from the Belmont ferry terminal on Unst to Hermaness will be included.
Walking out to the cliffs at Hermaness is approximately 3-4km. The path is across moorland via a boarded walk way, making it easier underfoot. The walk to the cliffs will be done at the pace you feel most comfortable with. The cliffs stretch over several kilometres, with several gannetries and views across to the small group of island which are home to the Muckle Flugga Lighthouse.
The group size is 2-4 people. The evening would start at 6:30 p.m. and all gear would be checked before heading out for the night. We will spend approximately 8 hours out on location, depending on the weather but would aim to be back at the vehicle by 6am the next morning. Whilst one night will offer a wide range of photographic opportunities, bookings can be made for more than one evening. A lot of the photography will be done in low light and it will be essential to use a tripod to keep the camera from moving during long exposures and also to be able to use your camera in manual mode. I will be on hand to help you improve your photographic skills, concentrating on composition, using light, mastering exposure and understanding filters. The night is informal, friendly and fun, while enjoying unique Shetland landscape.
A minimum of two participants cost per night per person £200
